Source File & DB VersionMay 14, 2009 @ 4:42pm
Ik krijg de volgende melding na het aanpassen van de BaseURL:

Source file and database versions do not match,
possibly due to a software upgrade in progress.
Please check back shortly.

Wat zou er fout gegaan kunnen zijn ?

Alvast bedankt !

Gotcha! Thanks very much, David, works a treat.

I'm liking Flex very muchWink..... guess my only wish is for some slightly more upbeat template designs! I can't code for toffee, unfortunately, so I'll stick to the provided ones for the timebeing. Of course if I had a list of tags I could probably drop them into GoLive....

:)

cheers

Most likely you're using Firefox or something Mozilla based, which doesn't display the ALT attribute, but rather the TITLE attribute (which is called Advisory Title in the editor). IE displays the ALT attribute, and there are various debates about which of them is right. In any case, the option for both is there and a good practice is to fill them both in for maximum compatibility.

alt text rollover May 9, 2009 @ 8:01pm
How do I make it so that images on my site show an 'alt text' pop up when rolled over?

I'm adding the alt text into the alt text window in the image uploader/manager, but nothing happens when the page is displayed and the image moused over?

thx

Hi David,

Well I'm sure the issues of bandwidth and storage are issues for the user to decide, aren't they? With pure forum sites it might be an issue, but within Flex?....I don't see many users having heavy forums, do you? (if they did I'm sure they'd choose a heavyweight forum script!)

As for content - well the current format would inhibit me posting relevant attachments, but it wouldn't stop anyone posting porn!! If the forum is within a login/memberhsip framework anyway, do you think it's going to be all untrustworthy? I don't think so.

All the big boards (vBulletin, phpBB) etc have upload functions, where invoked. Because it's useful and it's the way people use computers.

I'd encourage a change of view here! Oh, and a search functionWink

Yes, what you see on this site is the stock FlexCMS 3.0 forum module.

We've had some interest in allowing users to upload files, but it brings with it a number of issues. You have to consider the storage and bandwidth requirements for sites that are large or quickly growing, as well as the loss of control over what content (unwanted, illegal, etc) the users could possibly upload. It's probably something you'll see in a future version, but it's not as simple as just adding the upload box!

Forum - image uploadMay 9, 2009 @ 4:46pm
Is the panel I'm looking at now, as I type this, the same as in the regular forum module?

Forum looks nice and neat and uncluttered (although lacks search). But the one big bugbear for me is the method of adding images to the post...via an URL!!

I'm sure most people keep their images and screendumps etc. on their PC, not on a web server!

It's odd, because the page and article side of Flex has excellent image management and local PC 'browse' function.

OK David, understand, thanks for that anyway!

H,

Largely the length of the file URL depends where you store it in the directory tree, and the actual name of the file. For example, the same PDF could be "http://www.flexcms.com/folder/another/somethingelse/twenty_seven_days_on_a_beach.pdf" or "http://www.flexcms.com/files/vacation.pdf". Using a short file name and storing the file at or near the top of your directory tree is about as short as you're going to get no matter what you do. Even using some sort of script to address them by number is still going to be "http://www.flexcms.com/index.php/downloads/[number]" at its shortest. If you're really concerned about making them short you might want to use something like http://tinyurl.com

Using the rich text editor I can attach some files to my pages, eg. .pdf .doc etc.

But how do I shorten the long URL to something more user-friendly and descriptive? The long URL link is really ugly!

I've looked in the advance tab of the uploader, but it doesn't seem to offer anything.

???
