Download links | May 8, 2009 @ 9:36am | Using the rich text editor I can attach some files to my pages, eg. .pdf .doc etc.
But how do I shorten the long URL to something more user-friendly and descriptive? The long URL link is really ugly!
I've looked in the advance tab of the uploader, but it doesn't seem to offer anything.
???

Largely the length of the file URL depends where you store it in the directory tree, and the actual name of the file. For example, the same PDF could be "http://www.flexcms.com/folder/another/somethingelse/twenty_seven_days_on_a_beach.pdf" or "http://www.flexcms.com/files/vacation.pdf". Using a short file name and storing the file at or near the top of your directory tree is about as short as you're going to get no matter what you do. Even using some sort of script to address them by number is still going to be "http://www.flexcms.com/index.php/downloads/[number]" at its shortest. If you're really concerned about making them short you might want to use something like http://tinyurl.com
