Forum - image upload | May 9, 2009 @ 4:46pm | Is the panel I'm looking at now, as I type this, the same as in the regular forum module?
Forum looks nice and neat and uncluttered (although lacks search). But the one big bugbear for me is the method of adding images to the post...via an URL!!
I'm sure most people keep their images and screendumps etc. on their PC, not on a web server!
It's odd, because the page and article side of Flex has excellent image management and local PC 'browse' function. |

We've had some interest in allowing users to upload files, but it brings with it a number of issues. You have to consider the storage and bandwidth requirements for sites that are large or quickly growing, as well as the loss of control over what content (unwanted, illegal, etc) the users could possibly upload. It's probably something you'll see in a future version, but it's not as simple as just adding the upload box!

| May 9, 2009 @ 6:18pm | Hi David,
Well I'm sure the issues of bandwidth and storage are issues for the user to decide, aren't they? With pure forum sites it might be an issue, but within Flex?....I don't see many users having heavy forums, do you? (if they did I'm sure they'd choose a heavyweight forum script!)
As for content - well the current format would inhibit me posting relevant attachments, but it wouldn't stop anyone posting porn!! If the forum is within a login/memberhsip framework anyway, do you think it's going to be all untrustworthy? I don't think so.
All the big boards (vBulletin, phpBB) etc have upload functions, where invoked. Because it's useful and it's the way people use computers.
I'd encourage a change of view here! Oh, and a search function
