How can I change cms.php/index.php to something else?June 11, 2004 @ 2:59pm
Important! PHP SuExec systems will need a slight modification to the .htaccess file to work properly. Information about this can be found here: http://www.flexcms.com/index.php/forum/thread/262.html

If you would like to rename the core file from cms.php or index.php (depending on the version of FlexCMS) to something else, the way to go about that depends on what you're changing it to.

If you would simply like to rename it but keep a .php extension, the process is pretty simple and should work on any system:

1) Download cms.php or index.php from your website. Rename it to the desired name and upload it back to the site, leaving the existing cms.php or index.php file in place for old links.

2) Enter the Modify Site Settings section of the Control Panel. Change the Script Name variable to the desired name and save the changes.

Or, if you're running Apache and would like to remove the .php and make it look just like a folder:

1) Download the provided 0.htaccess file, then edit, upload, and rename it (edit the first line to read
Code

<Files [new script name]>
(ie:
Code

<Files cms>
if you called the file 'cms'), save and upload, then rename to .htaccess after uploading (Windows doesn't like files that don't have anything before the period). If you already have a .htaccess file in use, download it and merge them.

2) Download cms.php or index.php, and rename to the desired name. Upload the new file, leaving cms.php or index.php on the server for any hardcoded links, search engines, or bookmarks, as it will redirect any links to the new file.

3) (Pre-version 1.2 only)Download the index.html file and change both the html and meta refresh links to match the new name. Upload it back to the folder replacing the one that was there before, or rename the existing one first if you wish to have a backup.

4) Enter the Modify Site Settings section of the Control Panel. Change the Script Name variable to the desired name and save the changes.

If you're going for the second option and it isn't working, talk to your server administrator or hosting provider to make sure you have permission to use the Apache override necessary. If that person is you, make sure everything is okay in the Apache configuration file (usually httpd.conf).

Please note that this is unsupported, though we'll try to help you get it working if possible.

Also keep in mind that you've done this when you go to install modules, patches, or upgrades.
